Berkshire County RFU is the smallest RFU Constituent Body (CB) in the country with thirteen voting clubs. Further information on our clubs can be found in this section with the overview under Berskshire clubs
Our clubs normally field over 30 sides in formai leagues - see Merit Tables section.
There has been significant growth in this area over the last few years. The long-established ladies sides at Reading and Newbury have been joined by Windsor, Crowthorne and Reading Abbey with Redingensians and Bracknell establishing sides. Maidenhead have had a side in previous seasons but are dormant currently. See Merit Tables section.
Berkshire has a very large percentage of their clubs running youth sections (11/13). Growth has been particularly evident at Tadley, Thatcham and Hungerford. However, there has been a decline in youth numbers at a number of the more established clubs that is causing concern. Berkshire County RFU and the RFU Regional Development Team will be addressing this in the coming season.
The long-established girls sections at Reading and Newbury have been the only option for girls to play in Berkshire but now Windsor and Reading Abbey have sections. However the momentum in girls rugby and the demand for more local playing opportunities is currently being addressed by all the stakeholders.
The success of the Berkshire Girls squads at U18s, U15s and U13s ensures an excellent pathway for girls who decide to play rugby at Berkshire clubs.
