Sunday 13th January saw the Berkshire YMO programme continue to grow with Berkshire YMOs support and facilitate rugby for over two hundred U11 rugby players at the London Irish Community Festival. The event held at Reddam School, Wokingham was attended by teams from all over including Bournemouth, Hungerford, North Dorset, Southwark and Guernsey.
The YMOs refereed all the games, with nothing but compliments from the parents and coaches who were very impressed by their performances. “I think it’s fantastic to see a young lady commanding the players with such rapport and respect.” said one mother.
“It is brilliant! I hope for my boys to participate in something like this when they are older. He (YMO) is doing a great job – he is talking to the players and they are enjoying it.” said another.
“The YMOs put in a phenomenal effort and their performances were outstanding, they showed development from their first game to their last with voices and whistles getting louder, and signals became sharper, demonstrating how their confidence grew during the event. They should be extremely proud of themselves. They would not look out of place wearing a Society shirt – something they should all be aiming for” said Nicola McCombe, Berkshire CRC.
Following the festival, the YMOs were invited to be part of the Guard of Honour at the Irish game against Richmond with a Q&A session with players beforehand and tickets for the game.
It is hoped that this is the beginning of a close partnership between London Irish and the Berkshire YMO Programme.
