Green Machine Houdini escape

Against all the odds,, Reading RFC beat second place Salisbury 32-28 at Holme Park to ensure their place in South West One East for next season. Starting the day second from bottom, securing 5 points yesterday and Trowbridge and High Wycombe losing heavily, contributed to Reading's great escape.

From the Reading RFC website:

A fantastic performance by Reading RFC 1st XV beating high flying Salisbury RFC ensured we are will in South West 1 East league next season.

For many watching the game on Saturday 23rd April 2016, this game will go down as one of the best team performances at Holme Park for many years. Needing 4 tries and the win against high flying Salisbury RFC to ensure we gained the 5 points needed for survival, many at the club thought it was too much to ask. To add to the pressure, through the sterling work by Ron Tabb, over 100 Past players were also in attendance, who turned up expecting a good day, boy did they get it.

Thankfully the players were not listening to what many were saying before the game and produced the best game of ruby for many a season at Holme Park, winning 32 - 28 with the 4 tries needed to ensure we stay in South West 1 East for another season.

Congratulations to all the players, the coaches, medical team and supporters for your efforts. It was a fantastic day at Holme Park and sure a very long night of celebrations.

Thank you from everyone at Reading RFC - great day.
