Inaugural Berkshire All Schools Touch Tournament: A Huge Success!
Last week, the first ever Berkshire All Schools Touch Tournament took place in Reading. 6 girls teams and 5 boys teams took part with the majority of the Year 8 and Year 9 students trying out touch for the first time. The winners of both the boys and girls divisions were Pangbourne College teams with the girls division final going to a tense 3 v 3 drop off golden try game, which lasted over ten minutes! You can see the joy (and relief!) from the girls in the photos when the game was finally won!
The event was supported by coaches and referees from RFU Berkshire, England Touch, Wildcats Touch, Thames Valley Vikings Touch Club, Maidenhead RFC Mohawks Touch Club, In 2 Touch and O2Touch Ambassadors were also present. Jose Luis Dias, Wildcats Regional Lead, encouraged participants to get involved with regional trials and sessions run by their local clubs plus Lee Thompson, England Mixed U15s coach spoke about the upcoming Junior Touch Cup in Ireland and opportunities to play touch at elite level. All of the students we spoke to said they had enjoyed the event, would like to do it again next year and would be interested in playing more. Therefore, the event has been a great success for touch rugby in Berkshire.
Anyone interested in finding out more about opportunities to play touch rugby or receive coaching in the Berkshire area should contact Sammie Phillips (email@example.com / 07766 525 938) who will point you in the right direction.
Huge thanks also to RFU Berks CRC, Rhys Davies, who came along to coach and referee at the event. You were great with the kids and a big help to us! Thanks also to Hannah Edwards and Russ Bolton for helping us out in the run-up to the event and promoting it.
We have been asked by RBWM to run a touch rugby tournament for girls (year 8 to year 13) in Maidenhead on Wed 4 October 2017 in support of the Girls Sports Week (Girls Get Going/ This Girl Can) for schools in Maidenhead, Windsor & Ascot.
