Last season, the Referees Society was very concerned with the increasing level of abuse particularly at colts and junior matches. This abuse was not just confined to the players. It was much more prevalent from coaches and spectators. It is now becoming much harder to persuade referees, especially the younger ones, to officiate at junior games and unless this situation improves considerably, offending clubs may find they will not have Society referees appointed to their games. We would ask that all clubs take ownership of not only their players, but also coaching staff and spectators to eradicate this problem before it becomes a major issue. We would therefore request that clubs display Spectator and Parent Code of Conduct posters in prominent positions in both the clubhouse and changing room areas. Please disseminate this information within your club. The County Executive fully supports the Referees Society on this issue and would suggest that the principles covered by the poster are embodied in an individual Club Code of Conduct that is given to all Youth coaches and parents at the start of each season.
