Maidenhead U15s pick up League trophy

19th June 2009
By Steve Cullen

Maidenhead RFC Under 15s held their summer presentation BBQ on a glorious evening. Steve Cullen, Berks RFU Youth Chairman presented the Berkshire Youth League trophy to joint captains Alex Avery (above) and Fred Reid (below) and medals to the squad.

As well as claiming back to back titles the Maidenhead U15 squad can reflect on only one defeat in three Berkshire League campaigns with the remarkable points total of 736 scored with a mere 82 against. 2008/9 figures were equally impressive with the squad rattling up 221 points in their seven victories whilst only conceding 29.

Eleven boys achieved County honours and three represented London Irish in the National under 15 Academy Tournament

The strength of this particular age group is reflected by its sheer size with 53 players registered and the age group fullfilling a full programme of  B Team fixtures. Indeed the B squad remained unbeaten until their final game of the season when their colours were finally lowered by a strong Tring side. The achievements of the B squad were recognized by the awarding of commemorative medals to each member at the awards barbeque

The age group’s season culminated when over 50 players descended on Torquay over the May Bank Holiday weekend for the traditional end of season tour. In the space of two days Maidenhead fielded six mixed sides against the A teams of Newton Abbott, Tavistock, Old Elthamians, Crediton, Brixham and Torquay and achieved the probably unsurpassed result of six victories!
