Reading Kites Rugby
The Reading Kites are the women’s team at Reading Rugby Club and have been going strong since 1990, the first rugby club in Berkshire to form a women’s team. In 2008 Debbie Cornish joined the team as a brand new player. She has been a constant in the front row ever since whilst also juggling home life with a five-year-old daughter, Mia.

Daughter joins the team
Young Mia used to be a football fanatic and that was her main sport throughout her teenage years, but she and her Dad often came to watch her Mum at training and matches. However, after lockdown Mia was ready for a new challenge and when the Kites started preseason training back in July the now 18-year old Mia started turning up to train alongside her Mum.

First match played together
When the Kites had their first friendly match on Sunday 5th September against the Rams Sirens, Mum and daughter lined up together on the starting team sheet, with the team going on to win 25-5.

They both played again against Windsor Dames on Sunday 12th September and Mia even scored three conversions as the Kites won 58-12. Maybe this combination will be a lucky charm for the coming season?

The women’s team (Kites) train on Wednesdays from 7-9pm with matches on Sundays.
