BERKSHIRE RFU U17s IS OPEN TO ALL PLAYERS WHO PLAY THEIR CLUB OR SCHOOL/COLLEGE RUGBY IN THE COUNTY OR WHO LIVE OR WERE BORN IN THE COUNTY.
Berkshire RFU is part of the England Counties South West Division that includes Buckinghamshire, Cornwall, Devon, Dorset & Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Oxfordshire.
For U17 boys the season starts in August with selection. As part of the Enhanced coaching programme run by Berkshire RFU, U17 boys will have training opportunities approximately during the season.
Boys who were in the Berkshire ERDPP at U16 will automatically be provided the invitation to attend Berkshire U17s assessment days for selection into the Berkshire U17 squad.
3 playing opportunities are provided for the U17 squad on 3 consecutive weekends in May each season. The first weekend in May is allocated as a training session.
From a Berkshire RFU perspective, our purpose is to provide a competitive and positive experience for all those players in our squad throughout all of our programme. Our aim is to provide a balanced development programme for talented players from Berkshire Clubs and Schools. We will select a relatively wide squad of boys into the U17 programme because it is designed as a development programme and we wish to provide development opportunities through this programme to help boys improve their rugby.
All players, if they are fit and available, will be provided the opportunity to play in at least one of the playing opportunities each season. They may also be selected into the U18 squad if the coaching team feel they have the aptitude and ability. Not all players who play Berkshire U17s will be selected into the Berkshire U18 squad but we trust that players return to their clubs and schools as better players and continue to play county rugby with our U20s and Senior squads.
