It is with regret that the organising committee for the Berkshire RFU coaching conference met have made the decision to postpone the conference.
This is regrettable. with many potential attendees not being able to make it due renewed business and other commitments with covid limitations being reduced it was felt it would be better to rearrange at a future date.

Berkshire RFU Third Annual Coaching Conference
At Rams RFC

Come and join us at the Third Annual Coaching Conference at Rams on Sunday 3rd July and meet, listen too and observe a number of the outstanding coaches and referee in rugby today.
For the practical sessions our coaches Seb Reynolds, Jake Sharp and Gemma Stonebridge-Smith will be coaching through games and specific skill activities.
They will illustrate how to work with players of differing abilities, skill sets, coordination levels and physiques. The theme for these sessions will be attacking play, continuity and ball retention.
Premiership referee Ian Tempest will be exploring the relationship between referee and coach and also look at situations where the referee has to make difficult decisions.
Lynne Cantwell the Director of Women’s Elite Development with the South African RFU will set out the fundamental principles of player identification and development.

Lynne Cantwell – Head of Elite Womens Rugby Development (South African RFU)
Lynne is the current South African RFU Women’s High Performance Director. She is Ireland’s must capped female player with 78 caps and played for Ireland in the 2014 Women’s Rugby World Cup and 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens. In 2011 she became the first Rugby Writers of Ireland Women’s Player of the Year.
Lynne has a Sports and Exercise Degree from the University of Limerick, a Masters in Physiotherapy from Southampton University and is a member of the Sports Board of Ireland. She took up her current position with the SARFU in February 2021.

Jake Sharp – Attack Coach (Bedford Blues) and Skills & Transition Coach – Northampton Saints
Jake played his rugby at Saracens Academy & 1st XV, As well as at Bedford Blues, London Scottish , he was also capped at England U20s.
He has coached at both ACE (Oaklands/Saracens) and Saracens Academy as well as Wasps in their U16/U18 groups and Northampton Saints U18s.
He currently works at Bedford Blues in the Championship as an attack coach and at Northampton Saints as a Skills and Senior Transition coach.
Jake hopes to help you all understand and develop through his learnings and experiences so far, and looks forward to collaborating with the set of coaches coming to take part in the coaching conference and development day.

Major Gemma “Smudge” Stonebridge-Smith – Head Coach British Army Women
Major Gemma ‘Smudge’ Stonebridge-Smith MBE, was appointed Head Coach to Army Women’s Rugby Team in 2018/19. Under her tenure the Army Women have made history twice; first for being the only ever Army Women’s team to lose a fixture in the annual inter-service championship (in 20 yrs) and secondly, in 2022, by winning the first ever Army v Navy Women’s rugby match to be played as a double header with the Men’s fixture on the main pitch at Twickenham. Gemma is an Educational and Training Services Officer in the British Army and began her coaching career initially as a player-coach to the Adjutant General’s Corps team. Outside of Services rugby, she has most recently coached Amesbury Women’s Rugby – helping the team gain promotion to NC1 in only their second competitive season.

Seb Reynolds – National Division 1 Head Coach
Seb Reynolds is the Director of Rugby at Rams RFC who play at National One Level. Seb guided Rams from National two in 2020 and they have been tittle contenders for promotion to the Championship since. Seb is also coach for Berkshire Under 20s who this year reached the final of the Division Two Championship. During the week Seb also works with Reading University who operate at BUCS Division Two South.

The day is geared to cater for coaches who operate at all levels of the game from mini’s to seniors. You will improve your understanding of the game and your coaching ability.
