The Berkshire RFU county Girls U15s & U18s continued their season as part of the festival focused fixtures.
FESTIVAL FIXTURES
They are both a mixture of round robin 7s between the 4 counties and a XV fixture with the focus on the playing opportunity and the opportunity for players to be put forward to Centre of excellence of the back of it, the focus from the coaches is very much away from the score line and more on the skills.
This past weekend (8th March) the Berkshire U18 Girls were at Newbury RFC with U15 Girls being away at Buckingham RFC.
Berkshire U18s Girls
Due to the weather the theme for this week was contest for possession and apply pressure in defence. In training they have been focused on positive tackles and competing for the ball. In total the U18s managed to get over 35 turnovers during the game through a variety of techniques and the defence was excellent. With a huge number of positive tackles. They managed to keep a strong Dorset and Wilts side down to one try and in took until the 75th minute to score. Despite a stand out performance from fly half Kayleigh Wheeler they were only able to cross the try line twice. With one try being disallowed for unfortunately scoring on the dead ball line rather than the try line. It was a great day out for the girls, and it was brilliant to see them apply everything they did in training on Wednesday in the game.
Berkshire U15s Girls
A great day where the girls attitude and skill level really shone through. A strong performance in the U15s provided some great attacking rugby and a strong defensive effort with 70% of the game played in the oppositions half. The girls showed great game understanding and high ability trusting each other with new combinations to play rugby which was great to watch. Really excited to see what they can do at the final match after having hopefully a full training session under our belt.
NEXT FIXTURES
Their 3rd Final CB Weekend is 22nd March with U18 Girls away at Melksham RFC and U15 Girls at Home at Bracknell RFC.
