CARDINAL ERRORS COST GENSIANS DEARLY
Despite the recent weather that we have it is not the worst that the county has faced. In years gone by there was a worse period. The River Thames did not freeze over completely in 1963, but large ‘ice flows’ did make navigation of the channel almost impossible around the Reading area.
On March 9 1963, Old Redingensians (now Rams) played for the first time in nearly three months because of the “big freeze-up” – but lost 11-0 away to Esher Cardinals.
In atrocious conditions three defensive errors presenting tries to the Surrey side. But on the plus side, Colin Evans, Malcolm Evans and Clive Rowden were outstanding in the pack.
