This weekend, the Berkshire Banshees and my team gained further success at the GB Wheelchair Rugby 5’s nationals competition.
The day long round robin tournament was held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium (The home of the Paralympics).

They won a fantastic 4/4 games, even beating their close rivals Saracens for 1st place in the round robin league.
What makes this more astounding is this is the Banshees first formal tournament series – The tournaments are based upon 3 rounds one in Sept, Oct & Nov 21.The first tournament Berkshire Banshees have taken part in since the club was set up. They had only played friendly matches previously but this was a big step up for them.
ROUND 2
The maximum squad size is 12, but sadly Banshees had two dropouts on the day itself, leaving them with 10 players. NOTE: Each player has a classification based on their physical ability.
Of the 10 in the squad, 2 were ladies, there were 4 new players in the squad who joined Banshees due to the success of GBWR Paralympics Gold medal in Tokyo, inspiring them to give the game a go. They had never played a game before let alone a competitive league game.
It was a tremendous effort by the squad, having succumbed to Saracens in Round 1 in Sept it was fitting that the team overcame Saracens this time around. The 3rd and final tournament is on Sat 27th November again at Stoke Mandeville.
