another Reading Abbey RFC and Berkshire RFU player gets a full england call up

Chunya Munya has been called into the England squad in their expanded 37 man squad. The squad is a youthful team with 12 England players being away with the British Lions but this gives many players to opportunity to step up and stake a claim for a position. Eddie Jones as called the squad as”full of talent and potential” and has stated that he is looking for new wingers and centres.

CHUNYA MUNYA

Chunya grew up playing his school rugby (Leighton Park School, Reading) and club rugby (Reading Abbey RFC) in Caversham (Reading). He then came through the Berkshire RFU age group and then the London Irish DPP programme and was rewarded with a senior academy contract with London Irish where be made his debut in the Premiership in the 2019/20 season against Saracens.

Chunya has represented England at south U18 and U20 and Chunya has been brought into the squad as an apprentice player so experience the camp.

Having just penned a new deal with London Irish this week Chunya said “My game has been developing thanks to the coaches and other players the Club and I can’t wait to keep learning from them all moving forward.”.

“Chunya is a player with lots of potential….. He gets better each game and is always eager to improve. We are happy that he will be continuing with the Club and look forward to seeing his next steps in the London Irish jersey.”

ENGLAND VS USA

After the cancellation of the Scotland game (due to covid outbreak in the Scotland camp) are looking forward to finally kicking off the summer series against the USA.

DATE: Sunday 4th July
VENUE: Twickenham Stadium
KICKOFF TIME: 2pm
ON TV: Live on Channel 4

England have faced the USA six times previously and have won all six encounters, there last being a 45-7 win in Japan last time out. There will be an expectant 10,000 fans to cheer on the teams.

ENGLAND VS CANADA

The following week England will face Canada also at Twickenham so expect plenty of team variation for these two fixtures. England have not played Canada since 2004 and so this is a unknown fixture to all pretence and purpose as Canada have improved dramatically since 2004 and are coached by former Welsh player Kingsley
