The inaugural meeting of the Berkshire RFU was held on Thursday 26 March 1931 at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, 5 Friar Street, Reading.
The following clubs attended:
Windsor, Reading University, Thames Valley (now Maidenhead), Old Redingensians (now Rams), Reading School, Newbury Grammar School, Douai School, Newbury and Berkshire Wanderers (now Reading).
Mr J Bongard of the Middlesex RFU, was invited to attend and advise. Mr Bongard was from a long line of dedicated personnel who were part of Saracens RUFC and Middlesex serving the county from 1923 – 1948 as both Honourable Secretary and Treasurer during this time.
