Wheelchair Rugby is an exciting fusion of ice hockey, handball and rugby. It’s not only about speed and chair contact, but is also a tactically intelligent game to be involved in. Eight rolling substitutes make up squads of 12, with four players on court per team at any time, with the aim of driving the ball across the opponents goal line. Contact between wheelchairs is permitted, as players use their chairs to block and hold opponents

| JOB SUMMARY | To head up the coaching team for BBWRC, to deliver wheelchair rugby specific coached sessions at training and to providing knowledge and support to all players within the club |
| DAYS AND HOURS REQUIRED | Training takes place on Saturdays, Thursday evenings and matches take place on Sundays. The following timings area a guide and subject to facilities available – · Saturday sessions, 11 – 1pm · Thursday evening sessions – 6 – 7pm · Sundays – all day requirement once a month. |
| QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED | Ideally someone who has a lot of experience in wheelchair rugby e.g., as a player and interested in taking up coaching. If you already have coaching experience this will be an added benefit but not a prerequisite. BBWR will pay for you to complete Level 2 coaching awards and ongoing personal coaching development. |
ROLE INCLUDES
- Greet new players and make them feel welcome.
- Ensure all players feel part of the club.
- Create a welcoming environment.
- Ensure sessions are tailored to meet the needs of the whole group, and that all players are benefiting from the session.
- Ensure training sessions are inclusive of all who attend.
- Plan specific Wheelchair Rugby coached sessions.
- Ensure court is safe and clear of obstructions prior to the sessions starting.
- Deliver specific wheelchair rugby sessions at training.
- Teach the fundamentals of wheelchair rugby to all.
- Coach wheelchair Rugby demonstrations at events.
- Create activities and drills to be used within training that will improve the team’s wheelchair rugby skills.
- Manage/officiate conditioned games during training sessions.
- Support the team during events and competitions.
- Create and implement the teams’ tactics for competition.
- The role is subject to a cleared DBS check.
- This is a paid position, details to be discussed on an individual basis.
