Jon Dance has announced that he will not be standing for re-election for President at the club AGM due to take place this year.
Whilst President of the club he also Chaired the South West Division, was President of Berkshire and from 1995 to 2015 was on the RFU Council filling various roles including 12 years on the Board of the Union and five years on the Boards of World Rugby and Rugby Europe representing England.
His hard work and dedication to our game received the highest recognition when he was appointed RFU President in July 2014.
RFU President Jonathan Dance joined the Council as Berkshire representative in 1994, having been Secretary, Fixtures Secretary Chairman and Trustee of Bracknell RFC, as well as their President for more than quarter of a century, a role he still plays.
He played school rugby at preparatory school and St Edward’s School Oxford and went on to play hooker for Grasshoppers, Bracknell and Berkshire. He has served on the Berkshire Committee since 1976 and his county roles have included Team Secretary, Chairman of Competitions, Treasurer and President .
A retired solicitor, Jonathan has served on the Divisional Committee, having been Chairman and on the Competitions Committee.
His administrative roles at the RFU have been many and his valued work has encompassed being on the Board of the Union for 12 years, auditing clubs, finance, competitions, governance of the game, nominations and being a member of the 2015 Rugby World Cup Bid Committee. He was also the RFU’s Honorary Legal Officer for two years.
At an international level Jonathan served on the IRB Council for five years, has been Citing and Judicial Officer for international XVs and sevens, a member of IRB High Performance and Audit & Risk Panels . He was on the FIRA Board and , a Director of ERC, a member of Six Nations and Chairman of their Disciplinary Sub Committee and a member of their Regulation Committee.
John will continue in his roles at county level as chair of the Berkshire county disciplinary panel and as the league secretary for BBO 2 North.
